At Girl Scouts–North Carolina Coastal Pines our community partners are businesses, organizations, and content experts who provide unique opportunities, activities, and events for our members that align with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. Whether your organization excels at STEM, the Outdoors, Life Skills, Entrepreneurship, the Arts, Community Service, or Athletics, we know we can count on you to bring the Girl Scout program to life for our troops and girls.

The following list of Girl Scout-friendly organizations is intended to offer support to members interested in earning patches, badges, and Journeys, or just to have fun. The programs offered by the organizations may satisfy some of the requirements in connection to Girl Scout curriculum - helping girls to discover, connect and take action.

Advantage College Planning helps high school students prepare for college from initial planning through the application process itself. Girl Scouts looking to earn their Ambassador College Knowledge badge are encouraged to participate in our workshop where we’ll complete requirements 1-3 of the badge. Our goal is to find options that meet the student’s financial and academic needs in environment where students can grow and thrive. Cottey College
Cottey College is offering all Girl Scouts graduating in 2022 and 2023 an opportunity to attend a robust leadership experience, Summer Workshop, in June 2021.
Summer Workshop is a week-long summit focused on leadership and skill-building for change makers, and barrier breakers. College professors and administrators will teach interactive courses, guide adventures, and share the knowledge needed to build an incredible future. This a great leadership opportunity! Plus, attendance at the Summer Workshop would award students an additional $3,000/year. Open registration for girls graduating from high school in 2022 and 2023, applications open March 1, 2021. Durham Arts Council

The Durham Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and local arts agency dedicated to supporting the arts in Durham and the entire Triangle Region in North Carolina and has served the community since 1954. Each year DAC serves over 400,000 visitors and program participants, over 2,000 artists, and more than 300 arts and cultural organizations through classes, artist residencies, exhibits, festivals, grants programs, technical support, creative economy initiatives, arts advocacy, and information services.
Clay Workshop
The Girl Scout Clay Workshop will allow all participants to earn their pottery badge. Participants will visit the DAC Clay studio for two sessions. The first session will allow the girls to learn how to build and paint their artwork and the second session will give all participants the opportunity to learn about glazing.
Duration: Session 1 – 1.5 hours; Session 2 – 1 hour
Notes: Sessions must be a minimum of 2 weeks apart. Each session holds a maximum of 12 participants. Groups that are larger than 12 will be split into multiple sessions.

Essential Oils with Lisa

First Tee
First Tee has established Nine Core Values that represent some of the many inherently positive values connected with the game of golf, many of which directly support the Girl Scout Leadership Experience!
By participating in a First Tee event, Girl Scouts are introduced to these core values which are incorporated throughout the program. Girls will earn the Just for Fun Gold Patch as they enjoy new activities, new friends, and all things outdoors, while learning the basics of golf through unique games and challenges. Registration is required for events as space is limited. Adult guardians- please note these are drop and go events.
Fee: $5 per girl; fun patch included.

Food Explorers
Food Explorers- empowering children to learn about food and nutrition- can help Girl Scouts VIRTUALLY via Zoom to earn parts of the following food focused badges: Brownie- Snacks, Junior- Simple Meals, Cadette-New Cuisine and Eating for You, and Senior- Locavore. All Food Explorers instructors are Registered Dietitians and have extensive knowledge of childhood nutrition. The Food Explorers program introduces girls of all ages to healthy eating, through hands-on activities, games, and child friendly cooking lessons and can be adapted to fit your needs- including fun, non-badge related cooking classes focusing on seasonal recipes.

Miranda Lee LLC
Miranda Lee is a faith-based Health & Confidence coach who teaches girls learn how to love their bodies and prioritize their mental health. In Miranda's virtual workshops, she explains all the pillars of health and wellness, the basics of fitness and nutrition, and the importance of self-love and acceptance. We need to give the next generation of girls all the tools they need so they won't fall victim to diet culture and unrealistic body standards.Miranda also offers workshops for parents so they can learn how to encourage self-love, support their children's mental health, know the warning signs of eating disorders and more.
National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)
NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest mental health organization is happy to partner with Girl Scouts especially as teens struggle with mental health challenges that COVID-19 has brought on. Trained NAMI members can lead and educate your teen girls on important topics like mental wellness, coping skills, Diversity, Equality, Inclusion (DEI), grief, and more.
Girl Scout Seniors can enlist assistance on earning the Women’s Health Badge as they learn techniques to help them stay emotionally healthy. Girl Scout Ambassadors can reach out for assistance on the Journey: Your Voice, Your World if they choose a Take Action project that focuses on advocating for change around a mental health issue they care about. Girl Scout Cadettes can get support earning the aMAZE Journey as they navigate working through bullying and friendship situations.
NAMI also has a workshop titled: Ending the Silence that they can lead your girls through. View the flyer for more information about this session. Coleaders may want to consider a Sensitive Topic form to be required from Girl Scout parents for their girl to participate. If there are specific topics your girls want to talk about during their workshop, feel free to share that with the NAMI contact when you set it up.

The Poe Center partners with schools and organizations across the state to provide health education to children and adults. Engaging programs are available on nutrition & physical activity, adolescent development, general health, substance use prevention, dental health, bullying prevention, mental wellness, and cooking and gardening education. Girl Scout Girl Talk programs
Girl Talk for 4-7 graders addresses the timely topic of adolescent growth and development and the physical, social, and emotional changes that girls experience during puberty. Poe educators show off some of our 3-D exhibits, lead activities, and hold candid discussions to help parents/adult caregivers and their girl explore a range of topics from the workings of the reproductive system to the menstrual cycle to feminine hygiene protection and more.

Girl Talk 2 for 6- 8 graders is a unique workshop designed for middle school-aged girls and their parent/adult caregivers. This interactive, two-hour workshop discusses the growth and development girls experience during puberty, the structure and function of the male and female reproductive systems, the menstrual cycle, fertilization, and conception. Internet safety, peer pressure, abstinence, and sexually transmitted diseases are also introduced. The program has been designed with activities that facilitate and encourage open parent/adult caregiver-child communication.

Teens Against Bullying (TAB) Family Resource Center South Atlantic
TAB is currently offering free VIRTUAL awareness campaigns for all Girl Scouts where teen peer leaders spread awareness about the victimization caused by bullying and teach self-advocacy skills appropriate to their Girl Scout age level. This interactive hour long Zoom session will help your girls recognize and bring awareness to the signs of bullying while building self-confidence to support them in standing up for themselves and their friends in advocating for change.
Is your Cadette Girl Scout troop working on their aMAZE Journey? TAB can also help your girls work towards their aMAZE Journey by getting a better idea of the different types of bullying, how bullying can cause long-lasting trauma, how to learn about the signs of victimization, and how they can become advocates for their community. TAB sessions could also apply to other badges like: Daisies- Respect Myself and Others Petal; Brownies- Making Friends Badge; Senior: Mission: Sisterhood! Journey.
TAB also offers free sessions for adults who are working to support a child who is being bullied. They also offer support group sessions every 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month from 11:00am-12:30pm for youth who are experiencing bullying. All sessions are currently VIRTUAL, free and open to attendees in all 41 counties.

Vine Images
Vine Images is excited to provide online courses for Girl Scouts that are self-paced and mobile-friendly. Photography can be very technical, confusing and it takes a lot of snap shots to learn a new skill. With our online format, girls learn a new skill in just a few minutes through video instruction, review examples of work, see real life demonstrations and then complete a photo challenge geared to perfecting the skill. Each photo challenge builds upon the previous skill and before they know it, they have the skills to locate the best light in their situation and can compose the image to tell a story. Girls work at their own pace which allows them to spend the time needed to become comfortable in the new skill set before moving on.
Fee: $15/girl for the Junior Digital Photographer badge program; badge is not included.
Fee: $25/Kidz Photography Patch program; fun patch included. Ages 5-14.

Eno River Association

The Eno River Association provides Girl Scouts opportunities to learn about and practice environmental stewardship and natural resource conservation through education programs and service opportunities. The Association offers dozens of customized education programs for various age levels in the areas of Wildlife Biology, Geology & Soils, Water Quality, Chemistry & Resources, Local History, Botany, & other topics. In addition, the Association's 7,400+ acres of natural areas and parklands provide opportunities for community service projects, and Girl Scouts can choose to adopt a trail, organize a private service day, or engage in DIY service projects.
Fee: The cost for each program is $30 per hour (for a group of up to 10, adults & youth), prorated by the half hour and invoiced prior to the program. Eno River Association Members receive a reduced hourly rate. If the fee is a barrier to your participation, please let us know and we will work with you.

Shepard Nature Trail at Duke Forest

The Shepherd Nature Trail, located along Hwy 751 in the Duke Forest’s Durham Division, offers a short, self-guided hike and provides a wonderful introduction to the Duke Forest and Piedmont forest ecosystems. The trail is a 0.8-mile loop. This is a self-guided tour. Please review the website ahead of time for directions and read the interpretive signs ahead of time to develop your activity plan. There are no restroom facilities. Please read all posted signs and follow Duke Forest Rules and regulations. Enter the forest at your own risk.

Visit Triangle Rock Club with your scouting groups and open new avenues of exploration!
Climbing requires a combination of tenacity and practice in pursuit of mastery, and Triangle Rock Club offers a Scout-specific weekend climbing program that teaches courage, confidence, and character. Scouts can all enjoy the satisfaction of hard-earned success as they build their character and grow as both a group and as individuals.
Reserve harnesses and belayers for a two-hour block of climbing on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
