Our Young Numismatists (YN) program, Raleigh Coin Hawks, is designed specifically for young collectors (parents are welcome to attend). YNs meet monthly providing young collectors a chance to ask questions about coin or paper money collecting, pass around and talk about pieces from their own collection, and learn about coin collecting in a non-threatening forum. We’re also looking to partner with Girl Scout troops interested in learning more about any topic related to numismatics which includes: how to collect coins, the history of our money, coin designs, mottos, and phrases plus changes in our coins and currency over time. We will design a specific program to meet your needs and come to your location. Programs are free and usually there are free coins distributed depending on the topic.

Vine Images is excited to provide online courses for Girl Scouts that are self-paced and mobile-friendly. Photography can be very technical, confusing and it takes a lot of snap shots to learn a new skill. With our online format, girls learn a new skill in just a few minutes through video instruction, review examples of work, see real life demonstrations and then complete a photo challenge geared to perfecting the skill. Each photo challenge builds upon the previous skill and before they know it, they have the skills to locate the best light in their situation and can compose the image to tell a story. Girls work at their own pace which allows them to spend the time needed to become comfortable in the new skill set before moving on.

Community Opportunities are events and activities that are open to the public. Girl Scouts North Carolina Coastal Pines evaluates each opportunity for alignment to our Mission and values. Although girls are not completing badge or patch requirements nor receiving a special Girl Scout discount, we’re happy to share these opportunities for the value-added experience offered. We share the invite on behalf of the provider, but these events and activities are not sponsored by Girl Scouts North Carolina Coastal Pines.

The NC Museum of History has exhibits covering more than 14,000 years of our state’s history. See displays made by kids, “ride” in a dugout canoe, walk through a 200-year-old house, and hear stories of Tar Heel people—both everyday and famous.
Museum exhibits and programs can be resources for girls working on badges, patches, and other projects—anything dealing with history, culture, crafts, and more—including the My North Carolina Story patch. The Museum also offers patch and badge programs in coordination with the North Carolina Coastal Pines Council. These programs would be listed in the NCCPC Program Guide.
You can also experience North Carolina’s heritage and culture at two FREE annual festivals! The American Indian Heritage Celebration is held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving and features members of all eight state-recognized tribes. The African American Cultural Celebration occurs on the last Saturday in January. Both events include music, crafts, talks, and hands-on demonstrations.
Visit NCMOH.com to learn about festivals, programs, and resources (both in-person and virtual) and to see a list of current exhibit offerings.
When contacting a Community Partner, please be familiar with the guidelines provided in Safety Activity Checkpoints and Volunteer Essentials, as these apply. These include, but are not limited to, adult ratios, background checks, incident reports, insurance and more. Remember that Girl Scouts attending programs independently of a troop must be accompanied by an adult.
If an incident occurs during a program, a troop leader or parent should follow incident report guidelines. This is not the responsibility of the Community Partner.
Any adult needed to cover the girl-to-adult ratio who transports girls; or who serves as a chaperone for day or overnight trips must register as a member of GSUSA and successfully complete the online background check process.
A copy of each girl’s and adult’s health history form should be with the leader attending the event and a troop first aider should be present.
All Member and Non-Member Event participants are covered under the Girl Scout Activity Insurance basic plan. This plan covers accidents only. To provide both accident and sickness coverage, review our insurance form available under the Forms section of the Council Website.
