Our Vision

Our commitment to fostering a positive environment for Girl Scouts in central and eastern North Carolina remains unwavering. We want to focus on creating spaces that inspire engagement, challenge, and learning. Our properties play a critical role in providing outdoor leadership experiences and fostering courage, confidence, and character among our members. We are dedicated to improving accessibility to the outdoors, ensuring safe experiences, and enabling Girl Scouts to embark on their own adventures in nature. Stay tuned for more updates as we work towards enriching the outdoor experience, helping Girl Scouts develop a lifelong appreciation for nature, and laying the groundwork for future generations to explore the outdoors.

The projects outlined below serve as the foundation to guide Girl Scouts — North Carolina Coastal Pines' strategic planning, fundraising, resource allocation, tactical roadmap, and implementation over the next 10-15 years.

While each camp is unique, they are united by a strategic vision for the future of our Girl Scout properties. All projects will focus on safety, cleanliness, functionality, aesthetics, modernization, accessibility, weatherization, and the development of additional spaces. Re-Imagined Spaces, Transformative Places aims to expand program opportunities, develop more outdoor program spaces (amphiteater, stargazing/night programs, shelters), and amplify STEM, life skills, and outdoor programming.

Camp Mary Atkinson

Camp Mary Atkinson is located in Johnston County, North Carolina.

About Camp Mary Atkinson toggle arrow

Boasting 278 acres, the Camp Mary Atkinson property includes a swimming pool; pond for boating, swimming, and fishing; an Alpine Tower; and the Leadership Center.

The property has the capacity to accommodate 204 campers in the two cabin units, three tent units, and a staff house. We currently offer multiple sessions of camp at Camp Mary Atkinson throughout the summer along with troop camping and council events throughout the year.

At Camp Mary Atkinson, we're excited to renovate key program and lodging buildings, including the Staff House, Trees Cabin, and Ranger House. We plan to update landscaping and signage, replace the dock, provide a generator for the Leadership Center, and expand the archery area.

Get ready for updates to our platform tents in the Lady Slipper and Fox Leap units, expand our boathouse, and erect a covered riding ring at the Equestrian Center. Plus, brace yourself for the grand addition of a new amphitheater!

Further ahead, we will enhance the Holly site and install a new bathhouse to cater to both Holly and our active program activity areas.

Amphitheater — Camp Mary Atkinson

A new amphitheater is coming to Camp Mary Atkinson, creating a dedicated outdoor gathering spot for campfires, songs, skits, ceremonies, and girl-led celebrations. Designed for group visibility and easy facilitation, it will make it simpler to bring troops and units together for shared moments and program highlights. Expect a space that turns “end of day” into a can’t-miss camp tradition. With thanks to the A.J. Fletcher Foundation, Jane & Bob Green, Linda & John Foreman, and the Robert P. Holding Foundation for their generous support in making this new gathering space possible.

Cabins in Coyote Hill — Camp Mary Atkinson

Coyote Hill is getting new cabins designed to make overnights more comfortable while keeping campers close to the sights and sounds of the outdoors. These new spaces will expand sleeping capacity and create an easy “drop-your-bag-and-go” home base for troops and summer campers alike. The goal: more opportunities to gather, rest well, and wake up ready for the next adventure. With sincere thanks to the Robert P. Holding Foundation for helping make these new cabins possible.

Infirmary Remodel — Camp Mary Atkinson

The Infirmary has been reimagined as a modern, welcoming health-and-rest space—ready to support camper well-being when bumps, scrapes, or sick days happen. Updates include refreshed finishes, upgraded plumbing and electrical, improved bathroom space, and new bunks and furnishings, plus heating and air conditioning for year-round comfort. During the off-season, the space is designed to double as a cozy troop cabin—expanding weekend accommodations at camp. We’re grateful to the Mount Olive Pickle Company for helping make these renovations possible and for their continued commitment to Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines.

The Trees Renovation

The Trees is newly renovated and ready to welcome your troop for a cozy, memory-making stay. This lodge sleeps up to 14 with three bunk rooms, a separate room with two single beds, and two full bathrooms—plus heating and air conditioning for year-round comfort. It’s the perfect “home base” for small-group getaways between big outdoor adventures. These renovations were made possible thanks to the generous support of the Mount Olive Pickle Company, whose ongoing commitment to Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines continues to help create meaningful, transformative outdoor experiences for girls.

Target Sports Expansion

Target Sports at Camp Mary Atkinson has expanded—building on archery and adding BB guns and slingshots for more skill-building, safety-first fun. The archery range was relocated and extended for longer shooting distances, and new shelter and secure storage help programs run smoothly. The former archery area is now a dedicated BB gun and slingshot range, made possible through generous support from Southern Bank.

Camp Hardee

Camp Hardee is located on the south side of the Pamlico River southeast of Chocowinity, NC.

Camp Hardee consists of 96 acres with woodlands, a swimming pool, open areas, and river frontage for canoeing, kayaking, and sailing. The camp has the capacity to accommodate 96 campers.

At Camp Hardee, we are excited to build new waterfront projects, including the installation of a new dock, a new boat rack, a boat ramp and lift, and a stairway to the waterfront.

In the years ahead, we will fortify our shoreline for generations to come and unveil our ambitious plans, including a state-of-the-art Leadership Center complete with dining hall and program center.

Prepare for the arrival of a new cabin #6, the replacement of the Davenport Shelter, and the construction of a magnificent boat house! But that's just the start – a dazzling pool and pool house await, along with an additional cabin unit for unforgettable adventures!

Creativity Corner- A Place of Warmth and Imagination

Creativity Corner is refreshed and ready for big ideas. This upgraded Arts & Crafts Shelter is a bright, breezy hub for arts and crafts, badge work, swaps, and hands-on workshops. Improvements—like a new roof, concrete floor, fans and lighting, screened walls, and added sinks/storage—make it easier for groups to spread out, jump in, and keep creating. The renovations for the shelter have been made possible thanks to the generous funding of Kathy Karlic and Peter Gross, who are tremendous supporters of Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines and have chosen to invest in girls and their creative exploration of the outdoor experience at Camp Hardee.

Target Sports Expansion — Camp Hardee (Coming August 2026)

Camp Hardee’s Target Sports Expansion is designed to give more Girl Scouts a turn at skill-building, safety-first challenges that increase focus and confidence. The update will improve the layout and capacity of the program area so groups can move smoothly through instruction and practice. Our target sports expansion at Camp Hardee allows visitors to experience a larger archery range and allows for a reimagining of the current range to be used for BB guns and slingshots. It’s one more way we’re creating more “I can do this!” moments at camp.

Camp Graham

Camp Graham is located on Kerr Lake in Vance County, North Carolina.

At Camp Graham, campers can explore 155 acres of forest, lake coves, and fields. Camp Graham can house 206 campers in three tent units, three cabin units (including the unique Treehouses), a hut, and a staff house. This property is a long-term renewal lease with the Army Corps of Engineers.

At Camp Graham, we look forward to renovating the Welcome Center and program space, including transforming the old ranger house. We are excited to build a new waterfront shelter and expand the boat house as well.

Our future vision includes a New Leadership Center featuring a dining hall and program center as well as new bathhouses for Whippoorwill and Trailblazer units.

Other plans include the creation of a natural playground and a star-gazing feature, expanding upon the archery area, renovating the Kay McGavron shelter, and transforming the Cardinal Cove unit cabin.

Welcome Center

Start your stay the moment you arrive. The Welcome Center is a comfortable home base at the entrance—ideal for check-in, gathering your group, and getting organized. With three bedrooms that sleep up to 12, plus a full kitchen, common space, and heating/air conditioning, it’s a welcoming spot to plan, recharge, and kick off the adventure.

Waterfront Shelter

The Waterfront Shelter reimagines how Girl Scouts experience Kerr Lake—creating a comfortable, dedicated gathering place for waterfront instruction, reflection, and pre-activity excitement. This 720-square-foot open-air shelter adds shade and weather protection while keeping the experience fully outdoors, with open sides and picnic table seating. Built with safety, accessibility, and stewardship in mind, it helps more campers learn, lead, and try something new at the water’s edge. With heartfelt thanks to the Margaret Pickard Sirvis Fund—whose generous support made this project possible.

Stargazing Feature — Camp Graham (Coming August 2026)

A new stargazing feature is at Camp Graham—creating an intentional spot to slow down, look up, and explore the night sky together. Whether it’s a troop activity, a quiet reflection moment, or an astronomy-themed program, this addition will make nighttime at camp even more memorable. Get ready for big wonder under dark skies—made possible with out of this world thanks to the Margaret Pickard & Genrik S. Sirvis Fund.

Camp Mu-Sha-Ni

Camp Mu-Sha-Ni is located in the Sandhills region in Richmond County.

Camp Mu-Sha-Ni offers 843 acres for 166 campers to explore fields, forests, ponds, and wetlands. Camper accommodations include six platform tent units, two buildings (the Troop House and Chalfant Shelter), and an Encampment Field that can accommodate an additional 300 people for tent camping. The Troop House and Chalfant Shelter are fully equipped with heating and air conditioning for year-round camping comfort.

At Camp Mu-Sha-Ni, we can’t wait to add a BB gun and slingshot target sports area to the property, renovate the Chalfant Shelter, and increase boating access to the pond.

In the pipeline, we are envisioning a vibrant transformation! Picture this: trading in the rustic charm of some of the platform tents for the cozy allure of brand-new cabins, nestled within the serene landscapes. We're raising the bar by introducing a new bathhouse.

Brace yourselves for an all-natural playground, where laughter harmonizes with the rustle of leaves and the chirping of birds. And let's not forget about Painted Trees – where we're not just adding another shelter unit, but weaving dreams into reality.

Target Sports Expansion

Camp Mu-Sha-Ni added a dedicated BB gun and slingshot range—giving Girl Scouts another exciting way to build focus, steady aim, and confidence outdoors. Located near the Chalfant Shelter, the range includes a protective cover and storage to keep equipment organized and programming running smoothly. This upgrade was made possible through generous funding from Fidelity Bank.
