Dear Girl Scout families,
As I share these words, my heart resonates with deep empathy and a strong sense of unity with all of you, acknowledging the collective journey we're navigating through these transformative times. The societal shifts we've witnessed in recent years invite us to take a moment, pause and reflect on our current position and how Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines contributes to this dynamic change. We're not just observers; we actively participate in shaping this shared story, responding, growing, and evolving.
The pursuit of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has always been vital to the spirit of the Girl Scouts, and it has never been more vital than it is now. The ever-evolving dynamics of our society have highlighted the importance of maintaining an organization that not only respects but actively celebrates the individual experiences and perspectives that each of our members brings.
We are committed to ensuring that our organization remains a safe and welcoming space for everyone. We believe in embracing all, and we reject prejudice in any form. The strength of the Girl Scouts comes from its diverse members, from the girls and families we serve, to our volunteers and staff. We strive to create a sense of belonging for everyone, understanding that our tapestry is richly woven with threads of various colors, personalities, and origins.
Social justice remains a cornerstone of our mission. As we develop girls of courage, confidence, and character, we also strive to equip them with the knowledge and understanding of social issues that impact their communities and the world at large. It's not only about fostering empathy but also cultivating the ability to advocate for a fair and just society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
The past few years have seen an unfortunate rise in incidents of racism and hate. We stand against such incidents, and we stand with those who are victimized by such heinous acts. As an organization committed to promoting unity, diversity, and equality, we pledge our unceasing dedication to the fight against racism. Our vision is to create an environment where every girl, irrespective of her race or ethnicity, can flourish and fulfill her utmost potential.
Every member of our Girl Scout family is invaluable. We promise to listen, to learn, and to act. We promise to foster a culture where every girl, family, volunteer, and staff member feels seen, heard, and valued. It is my hope that our commitment to DEI, our stance against racism, and our dedication to social justice shine through in everything we do. I believe that together, as we live out the Girl Scout Promise and Law, we will create a better, fairer, and more inclusive world.
Let's remember that conversations about these issues are essential. We encourage you to make use of the resources we've made available on our website to facilitate discussions on embracing differences, ensuring fairness, fostering inclusivity, and standing for racial equality with your girls.
Thank you for being a part of our Girl Scout family, for your continued dedication, and for your commitment to making the world a better place.
With sincerest gratitude,
Lisa M.K. Jones
