Event Description: Girl Scout Teens: Join us to a
2-night, 2-day weekend training where you can learn either the basics
of Canoe/Kayak/Paddleboard, or Sailing! You MUST have completed PA
training prior to this event and be entering 7th grade or higher in
fall 2026.
Please read descriptions carefully to
understand what you are signing up for. Ask questions to Lizz Mathews

Class Options:
Swim Test - All Watercraft Skills class participants
are required to pass a basic swim test upon arrival. The swim test
demonstrates your comfort in the water and consists of:
* Swim
approximately 20 yards without a life jacket.
* Tread water for
1 minute without a life jacket.
* Put on life jacket while
treading water.
* Swim approximately 20 yards with a life
jacket.
Blended Learning: All Watercraft
Training classes use a blended learning format. Participants MUST
complete online coursework prior to the in-person skill session.
Accommodations and Meals: All Saturday and
Sunday meals and sleeping accommodations (platform tents) will be
provided.
SESSION 1
Basic Sailing Skills for
Teens
DESCRIPTION:
- This class is for Teen Girl
Scouts, Cadettes through Ambassadors.
- Learn basic and
intermediate boat handling and rescue skills for Sunfish sailboats.
The primary focus of this class is to earn basic certification,
develop new skills and a love for the sport, and to have fun.

Prerequisites: All participants must pass the swim test. Participants
who wish to become qualified as a waterfront PA must have completed
the Program Aide training separate from and prior to the sailing
weekend. There is no Qualified Assistant option for sailing.

This class will be taught in a Teen-friendly environment and will
include essential boating and basic water rescue skills, sailing
theory, and fun activities to enhance learning.

SESSION 2
Basic Paddling Skills for
Teens
DESCRIPTION
- This class is for Teen Girl
Scouts, Cadettes through Ambassadors.
- Learn basic boat
handling and rescue skills for canoes (tandem), kayaks, and
paddleboards. The primary focus of this class is to earn basic
certification, develop new skills and a love for the sport, and to
have fun.
- Prerequisites: All participants must pass the swim
test. Participants who wish to become qualified as a waterfront PA
must have completed the Program Aide training prior to the boating
weekend. Participants who are 16 years of age or older and wish to
become a Qualified Boating Assistant must take the Boating Leader:
Council Properties class described above.
- This class will be
taught in a Teen-friendly environment and will include essential
boating and basic water rescue skills, and fun activities to enhance
learning.

Event Confirmation Packet/Details: All the details that you need to attend this event can be found in the event confirmation packet. Once it is finalized, you will see it when you go to the My Events page of your My GS account and select the event from the list. All registered participants will also receive a copy via email closer to the event date and after registration closes for the event. Please review the packet at least several days prior to the event so you will have time to adequately prepare for the event and to ask questions, if needed.
Cancellation Policy
For cancellations received by July 2, 2026, we will refund to original method of payment.
For cancellations received between July 3, 2026 and July 16, 2026, we will refund to original method of payment minus $15 cancellation fee.
In case of illness or family emergency, cancellations received by July 27, 2026 will be refunded to original method of payment minus cancellation fees and costs as applicable.
