Questions about signing up?

I want to volunteer with Girl Scouts. How can I do that? toggle arrow

As a Girl Scout volunteer, your time and talents have the power to change girls’ lives. Whether you’re mentoring them through their Girl Scout experience, guiding them as they choose the way they will run their cookie business, or encouraging them as they raise their voices on issues they believe in, you’ll be their cheerleader, guide, and mentor as they develop essential life skills and confidence that will last a lifetime. And while you’re teaching them and setting them up for happy, successful lives, you’ll grow too. It’s a win-win!

Check out our website to learn more about ways to volunteer with Girl Scouts.  Then purchase a membership and complete a background check.

If you already have an account or if your family is already associated with a troop…

  • Login to your My GS account.
  • From the My Account page, scroll down to the My Troops section and select the role that interests you for the troop.
  • If you don’t see any roles on the My Account page, then go to the My Household page.
  • Select Show inactive members on the right side of the household member list.
  • Underneath your name, select Add a new role.
  • If the new volunteer is not currently on your family account, scroll down to the bottom of the My Household page and select Register a new household member.

If you are new to Girl Scouts, visit My GS then scroll down and select Volunteer.  You will create a My GS account during the registration process.

Check out the Volunteers page on our website for additional information and resources.  If you have any questions, please contact our Customer Care team at helpdesk@nccoastalpines.org or 800-284-4475.

What's a Girl Scout "troop"? toggle arrow

Groups of Girl Scouts, called troops, typically meet weekly or every other week for an hour or two. Guided by adult volunteers, troop members choose the hands-on activities and projects that excite them, try new things, and cheer each other on. Together, they earn badges to reflect their successes and show the world what they’re made of.

How often do troops meet? toggle arrow

Troop meeting schedules are flexible! Most of our troops gather once a week, every other week — it’s all about what works best for the troop leaders, Girl Scouts, and parents.

It all depends on what works for everyone involved—leaders, girls, and the space available.

Whether it’s badge-earning or travel days, there’s always something exciting happening in Girl Scouts!

Is there a fee to join Girl Scouts? toggle arrow

Girl Scouts is a great value! Membership starts at just $25, plus additional program fees for some of the activities your girl may want to participate in and council fees. Of course, we don’t want fees to be a barrier, so don’t hesitate to check out our financial assistance options here. A Girl Scout membership year starts on October 1 and lasts until September 30 of the following year, but you can get started early by joining or renewing your membership in April each year.

What do Girl Scouts do? toggle arrow

Girl Scouts isn't just an activity—it’s a whole Movement! It’s all about empowering girls to have courage, confidence, and character. Whether they’re diving into STEM, outdoor adventures, starting their own businesses, or just learning life skills, Girl Scouts are also finding awesome ways to make their families and communities cooler, kinder, and way more awesome for everyone.

Besides the Girl Scout membership, what other costs should I budget for? toggle arrow

Additional costs may include uniforms and pins, some activities, some events, and camp sessions. If needed, we offer access to The Sisterhood Fund for more than just membership! Read more about The Sisterhood Fund here.

What materials will my Girl Scout need to start? toggle arrow

We suggest getting a sash or vest appropriate for her age level, a membership pin, and her troop numbers! Our Girl Scout shops offer handy starter kits that have everything you need, as well as some with fun optional accessories! Check out the kits online here or in person at our Girl Scout shops.

Am I required to be a volunteer for my Girl Scout to participate? toggle arrow

You don't need to register as a volunteer for your daughter to join in, but we really hope you will! Many girls say one of the best parts of Girl Scouts is spending more time with their parent or guardian. However, if you want to join in troop activities, events, or meetings, you must be a registered volunteer and have passed a background check!

I have more questions. Can I set up an appointment to talk to someone? toggle arrow

Of course! Our help desk can answer any questions you have about Girl Scouts! You can reach the Help Desk by calling 1-800-284-4475 or emailing helpdesk@nccoastalpines.org.

Do you have Medicaid? You may be eligible for a Girl Scouts membership as part of your benefits. Click here to learn more.
