Event Description: Girl Scout ADULTS: Join us for a 2-night, 2-day weekend training, where adults can be trained to take girls on flat water outside of Council Properties (must have completed Council Properties Watercraft Training or equivalent to participate).
This class is available to currently registered adults with an
eligible background check.
Girl Scout TEENS: Join us to a 2-night, 2-day weekend
training where you can learn either the basics of
Canoe/Kayak/Paddleboard, or Sailing! You MUST have completed PA
training prior to this event and be entering 7th grade or higher in
fall 2025.

Class Options:
Watercraft Leader: NC Waterways - Canoe/Kayak/Paddleboarding
Description:
This class is for adult volunteers
This weekend-long class is intended for experienced volunteers who are
interested in "taking girls out" beyond the boundaries of
GS-NCCP council properties in canoes, kayaks or paddleboards.
This is an advanced level class and does not cover any basic paddling
or rescue skills.
Mandatory prerequisites: 1) Prior boating
experience and leading girls in boating activities; 2) Completion of
Watercraft Leader: Council Properties training (or documented
equivalent); 3) Demonstrate proficiency upon arrival by navigating a
figure-8 course in both a solo canoe (paddling on only one side of the
boat) and a kayak.
In this class participants will learn and
develop trip planning skills, emergency preparation, and advanced
rescue techniques.
Successful demonstration of both paddling
and rescue skills, and completing all portions of this class, meets
the Safety Activity Checkpoints for leading paddling activities on
flat water within the state of North Carolina.
This course
includes both online and in-person training that must be completed to
be considered certified.
Credentials are good for five years
from the completion date.

Basic Sailing Skills for Teens
Description:
This class is for teen Girl Scouts,
Cadettes through Ambassadors (Teens must be entering 7th grade or
higher in Fall 2025)
Learn basic and intermediate boat handling
and rescue skills for Sunfish sailboats.
Prerequisites: All
participants must pass the swim test. Participants who wish to become
qualified as a waterfront PA must have completed the Program Aide
training prior to the sailing weekend. Participants who are 16 years
of age or older and wish to become a Qualified Sailing Assistant must
take the Boating Leader: Council Properties class described
above.
This class will be taught in a teen-friendly environment
and will include essential boating and basic water rescue skills,
sailing theory, and fun activities to enhance learning.
This
course includes both online and in-person training that must be completed.

Basic
Paddling Skills for Teens
Description:
This class is for Teen Girl Scouts,
Cadettes through Ambassadors (entering 7th grade or higher in Fall
2025).
Learn basic boat handling and rescue skills for canoes
(tandem), kayaks, and paddleboards.
Prerequisites: All
participants must pass the swim test. Participants who wish to become
qualified as a waterfront PA must have completed the Program Aide
training prior to the boating weekend. Participants who are 16 years
of age or older and wish to become a Qualified Boating Assistant must
take the Boating Leader: Council Properties class described
above.
This class will be taught in a teen-friendly environment
and will include essential boating and basic water rescue skills, and
fun activities to enhance learning.
This course includes both

Event Confirmation Packet/Details: All the details that you need to attend this event can be found in the event confirmation packet. Once it is finalized, you will see it when you go to the My Events page of your My GS account and select the event from the list. All registered participants will also receive a copy via email closer to the event date and after registration closes for the event. Please review the packet at least several days prior to the event so you will have time to adequately prepare for the event and to ask questions, if needed.
Cancellation Policy
For cancellations received by July 3, 2025, we will refund to original method of payment.
For cancellations received between July 4, 2025 and July 17, 2025, we will refund to original method of payment minus $40 cancellation fee.
In case of illness or family emergency, cancellations received by July 28, 2025 will be refunded to original method of payment minus cancellation fees and costs as applicable.
