In the Know with the CEO News August 2012

Get ready for the new Girl Scout year!

The Girl Scout Shops are getting in all sorts of fun, new things for the fall -- and you can get them before anyone else. Just look for wonderful things like T-shirts, charms, earrings, key chains, socks for girls of all ages -- even a new scarf.

Gov. Bev Perdue has signed into law a requirement that all North Carolinians complete CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training in order to graduate from high school, starting with the graduating class of 2015. As always, Girl Scouts are already a step ahead and we have already scheduled three teen CPR classes. Their schedule is on page 12 of the new about-to-be released GO! magazine.

Look again: The Girl Scout Specialty License Plate ... we must collect orders from the first 300 people who want to purchase the plate. (It's a tax-deductible $30 charge above the cost of the regular plate: $10 goes to support the highway beautification project, and $20 goes to support Girl Scouting in North Carolina!) All the details are on our website, and you can complete your order through C.O.R.E. (Council Online Registration Entry). You can also complete the order form and mail it to Raleigh.

We're already gearing up for the annual Fall Product Sale, which starts October 12: What Can A Girl Do? will help girls learn how to go from being a dreamer to a doer so they can become girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Treats for Troops is returning: Girl Scout troops may collect donations for a special order to be delivered to military troops around the world. Girls can sell magazine subscriptions (new and renewals) as well as nuts and chocolates in order to earn proceeds for their troop activities at the beginning of the Girl Scout year -- plus lots of great patches and recognitions.

August is the month for Leadership Camp and the Administrative Team Conference. And it's the month all our wonderful volunteers need to start making plans to join us at one of our Volunteer Appreciation Days:

  • Sept. 8 @ Camp Hardee for Body, Mind, and Spirit
  • Sept. 22 @ Camp Mary Atkinson for Survivor: Escape to CMA
  • Oct. 6 @ Camp Mu-Sha-Ni for And the Winner Is ...

Thank you for your support of girls and Girl Scouting. Have a great rest of the summer -- and see you in September as we get ready for a new Girl Scout year!
