Girl Scouts delivered Girl Scout Cookies to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018 as part of the Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines’ annual Operation Cookie Drop program. Now in its 13th year as part of the 2018 Girl Scout Cookie Program, Operation Cookie Drop is a council-wide community service project that delivers a sweet taste of home to military men and women through donated boxes of Girl Scout Cookies. At the event, the girls delivered 2,100 cases of Girl Scout Cookies.
This year, Girl Scouts from across central and eastern North Carolina surpassed their goal of donating 1 million boxes of Girl Scouts cookies donated to the military over the past 13 years. This was an incredible milestone for the girls, who worked hard collecting donations through individual sales as well as Girl Scout Cookie booth sales by using donation jars for spare change and creating fun posters and signs talking about this community service project to get the word out.
Operation Cookie Drop represents more than just a sweet treat. The service project aims to show support, kindness, and hope to those serving our country. “Nothing says home more than the taste of Girl Scout cookies, which is what makes this service project so incredible!” said Barbara Whitehead, director of NCPacks4Patriots, a local organization that supports military troops and families. “To have that taste of home, that walk memory lane to a happy time, means the world to our troops. But most of all, our troops know that they are not forgotten and that their country still appreciates their service and thinks of them.”
Girls who participate in Operation Cookie Drop deliveries experience first-hand how their hard work during the Cookie Program directly impacts military men and women and their families and see that one box of cookies can mean so much to those serving our county.
Girl Scouts Cookies will also be donated to the deployed military personnel worldwide including U.S. Marine installation Cherry Point in Havelock, U.S. Army installation Ft. Bragg in Fayetteville, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NCPacks4Patriots in Ayden, USO of North Carolina at RDU Center, and the USO of NC, Jacksonville Center.
