Girl Scout Cookie Top Sellers Awarded at Celebratory Luncheon

On Saturday, May 19, Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines honored their top sellers for the 2018 Girl Scout Cookie Program at a luncheon with our CEO in Cary, NC.

The top seller this year was Alyssa J. of Durham, NC, with 7,981 boxes sold. Alyssa sold the most Girl Scout Cookies in council history, and sold more than any other girl in North Carolina this year. Ruth L. of Fayetteville, NC placed second with 6,162 boxes sold and rounding out the top three, Madeline F. of Leland, NC sold 4,765 boxes.

During the special luncheon, each of the top sellers was presented with a trophy from the North Carolina Coastal Pines council. Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines Chief Executive Officer, Lisa Jones awarded the girls with their trophies and recognized each of the girls for their great efforts during this year’s cookie program.

Girl Scouts have used the power of the cookie for over 100 years to help build everyday leaders who make the world a better place. Being named a top seller goes beyond what’s in the box as it highlights a girl’s determination to set and achieve goals, develop business and financial literacy skills, and enhance their entrepreneurial spirit. This recognition also demonstrates a girl’s mastery of the five skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics as she runs her very own cookie business.

The 2018 Cookie Program ran from January 13 – March 4, 2018. Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines sold over 3.1 million boxes of cookies with approximately 11,944 Girl Scouts participating in the 2018 Girl Scout Cookie Program. Approximately 2,200 girls sold more than 400 boxes of cookies each. Additionally, 285 girls sold more than 1,000 boxes each. Council-wide the average number of boxes sold per girl was 256. Nationally the average number of boxes sold by Girl Scouts is approximately 150.

The Girl Scout Cookie Program supports girls in achieving the goals they set for program activities, community service projects and philanthropy, and ensures all girls are afforded access to the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.
