Centennial of Suffrage
Girl Scouts emphasis on civics education and civic engagement began in 1918 with the first Civics Badge and in 1920 with a Citizens Badge. Beginning in 2019, GSUSA will celebrate and rally multiple generations around the centennial through national and local council engagement initiatives and partnerships to increase awareness of past suffrage achievements while reaffirming civic purpose and the future of girls’ advocacy.
19th Amendment to the Constitution: "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.”
GSUSA Celebrates the Centennial of Suffrage in 2020
2020 will mark the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment which was a significant milestone in the suffrage movement in the United States. GSUSA is partnering with the Women’s Vote Centennial Initiative to share content and increase excitement around this historic anniversary.
