new online orientation
It's live!  Volunteers can now access the new online Volunteer Orientation site. When you log on, please type in the password - discover. To ensure your learning record is updated, please include this email address on your learning log:  volunteerservices@nccoastalpines.org.

New leaders/volunteers need to complete Orientation prior to doing Volunteer Essentials and the Troop Module.

New Online Membership, Training and Activities Registration site.
Click here to access the new online training registration site.
The first time you visit the new site you will need to activate your web access (your profile is already set up). All you need is your first name, last name and the email address on file with the council. You will be able to set up your own user name and password for future visits to the site.

All volunteers and parents are encouraged to activate their online web access for themselves and for their daughter(s) or dependent(s). This new all-inclusive registration and troop management site currently gives Troop Leaders (with an 01 position code) access to view and edit membership information for all currently registered members of their troop(s) and to register themselves or their troop members for council activities. For other adults and parents, ththe site gives them access to view/edit their own contact information and register for adult training and to view/edit their daughter's information and register her for council activties like Resident Camp.

In early spring, this site will be availble for online Girl Scout membership renewal and Resident Camp/Summer Oppportunties registration.

General Information about Training
We strongly encourage volunteers to take advantage of the fun workshop opportunities provided as enrichment classes or at adult events to enhance the program you provide to girls.

  • Classes that do not meet the minimum registration number on the deadline date (deadline is two weeks prior to the class date) will be canceled, and you will be notified.
  • Workshop confirmation letters are emailed approximately two weeks before the class.
  • To ensure the safety of our girls and volunteers, exact locations are not posted on this site. Please refer to the Lead On guide for location information. To-be-announced locations are provided to you with your confirmation. If you do not receive this information, please call the Training Registrar at 919-782-3021, ext. 3323 or 1-800-284-4475, ext. 3323. Times and locations are subject to change.
  • Read your confirmation carefully. It may contain changes in location and/or time.
  • Registrations may be accepted on or after the deadline date, contingent on space available. Please call the Training Registrar at 919-782-3021, ext. 3323 for late registration information.
  • If you have not registered for an event, do not “drop-in”. Our volunteer Trainers want your training experience to be as pleasant as possible. Non-registered participants could cause overcrowding due to the space limitations of some facilities, and the necessary resources may not be available for those not registered.
  • Please observe course schedules. Training is not complete if you leave early.

Changes or Cancelations

  • If you must cancel your registration, please notify the council Training Registrar immediately. Some classes have waiting lists and, with notice, we may be able to fill your place in the workshop.
  • Only those registered will be notified of class cancelations and time or location changes.
  • When a class is canceled please reregister for another class by sending in a new registration form or by notifying the Training Registrar of your choice for a new workshop date.

Workshop Information

  • Fees must be mailed with the registration form. If you fax a registration form, you may pay your fee by completing the credit card section on the form (there is a minimum charge of $7 required for credit card charges). No faxed or Internet registrations will be accepted without this information – no exceptions!
  • Please make all checks and money orders payable to Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines, indicating the course number on your check. Fees may be paid by Visa or MasterCard (minimum charge $7).
  • Refunds will be made only with four days prior notice of cancelation by the participant or if the class is full or canceled.
What to Bring
Check the description of the course materials needed. Please bring the appropriate grade level Journey, the Adult Guide, Safety-Wise, adult development card, pen, and paper to each course. Each troop is provided one set of grade-appropriate resources. If you are not the primary leader, please make arrangements to borrow these materials to bring with you. You will probably want to bring lunch and a drink for sessions lasting through the noon hour, unless meal preparation is part of the course.

Volunteer Training Record Cards
A wallet-size “Volunteer Training Record Card” is available for each volunteer and is distributed at your Getting Started session. Each time you complete a workshop, your trainer will sign the card. These cards are quite useful for your own personal record, as background information when applying for the Girl Scouts of the USA Leadership Development Pin, and if you are a “Girl Scout on the Move” to another council.

Course Participant’s Workbook
When you attend a workshop, you will receive a participant booklet. This booklet contains information and program ideas about that particular session and is a great resource for the future.  If you are doing an online training, please download the workbook before taking the quiz.

No ONSITE CHILDCARE
Due to the facilities and personnel available for our courses, we regret we cannot provide childcare. Children are not permitted in the sessions. We encourage you to secure a sitter, to check on community services, or to set up a reciprocal agreement with another Girl Scout adult.

Preparation
Have you planned in advance for carpooling, etc? Please plan to attend all sessions indicated. Please arrive on time and stay until the published ending time.

 for All Leaders/Co-Leaders
Please note: a volunteer application must be completed and references returned prior to registering for workshops.

  • First Aid certification requirements vary by the authorizing organization. Both components must be current for certification to be valid.

Enrichment Workshops

  • Examples: Badges and Signs, Songs, Crafts, Ceremonies, Bridging, Games, etc. These vary from county to county.
  • Enrichment Workshops are a vital part of the development and learning experience of a leader. Our world is changing; therefore, our council provides opportunities for leaders to participate in enrichment workshops resulting in personal growth and new experiences in their own lives and in the lives of the girls. Parents, troop committees, and Girl Scout administrative volunteers are encouraged to take advantage of adult development opportunities.

 Earned Awards

  • A volunteer development record card is presented to all adult volunteers upon completion of “Getting Started.” All future participation is recorded on this card; carry it with you.
  • An Outdoor II Trained Patch is available upon completion of Outdoor II Overnight Training. There is no cost for this patch, which is available at the workshop.
  • The Girl Scouts of the USA Leadership Development Pin is available to all Leaders, Co-Leaders, and Advisors completing the requirements. The Leadership Development Pin Application should be sent to: Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines, Attn.  Volunteer Services, P.O. Box 91649, Raleigh, NC 27675. Exemption from Required Courses for Persons Moving to Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines from another Council

When a person moves her/his membership from another council to North Carolina Coastal Pines and has successfully completed training in the former council, it is required that the person receive information about our council procedures, council forms, and troop materials.  This occurs in “Getting Started”. At that time, the decision will be made if further training sessions are needed to develop skills, fulfill their responsibilities and familiarize themselves with North Carolina Coastal Pines. A copy of your training card must be sent to Volunteer Services for inclusion in our training database. (If a person moving from another council has completed outdoor training in the former council, she/he must meet with an experienced outdoor trainer to determine further training needs.) Call the the Volunteer Services team at 919-782-3021 or 1-800-284-4475, ext. 3336 if you have any questions.
