Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines is hosting a statewide youth congress September 20 and inviting groups of teens from other youth-serving organizations (Y’s, the other Girl Scout councils, Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls Clubs, Hispanic youth, etc.) to join them as they are addressed by the gubernatorial candidates and learn that Democracy is Not a Spectator Sport.
We anticipate an audience of 750-1,000 teens from all across North Carolina coming together as they learn how to encourage voter registration and voter participation. Beginning with a ‘meet and greet’ buffet breakfast, continuing with an address by gubernatorial candidates, then finishing up with how they can help register voters and encourage participation among friends and family, teens will learn how they can help – even if they can’t yet vote.
