Our Own Council’s Try-Its, badges, and interest project awards are unique to North Carolina Coastal Pines. Troop leaders, their girls, and event planners have created these special awards around an event or activity they were interested in learning more about.
Birds of the Carolinas Try-It (Brownie)
Learn about the variety of birds that call North Carolina home, take a guided bird hike, discover ways birds communicate, and much more with this Our Own Council's Try-It.
Every Vote Counts Try-It (Brownie)
Take this opportunity to learn about your district in the North Carolina House and Senate. While they’re at it, girls can find out about elections and women’s right to vote. Hold a mock election within your troop.
Honoring Our Armed Forces Try-It (Brownie)
This is the Brownie Girl Scout version of the Salute to Our Armed Forces badge. Girls have the opportunity to learn the history behind holidays that honor our military, visit USO offices, and gain a better understanding of what it’s like to be a member of the military.
Scrapbooking Try-It (Brownie)
Brownie Girl Scouts can earn this Our Own Council’s Try-It by learning scrapbooking terms, locating local scrapbook resources, and working on their own scrapbook. This popular topic allows girls to meet other scrapbook enthusiasts and stresses the importance of sharing the past with photos for future generations.
Become a Chef Badge (Junior)
This Our Own Council’s badge will enable girls to have the opportunity to meet a local chef, plan menus, bake, and expand their food horizons by trying food they’ve never tasted before. This badge encourages making food for those in need and teaches girls about food science and dietary restrictions.

Camp Graham Junior Ranger Badge (Junior)
Based on the National Park Service’s model of a Junior Ranger program, the Camp Graham Junior Ranger Our Own Council’s badge offers girls the opportunity to learn the history of Camp Graham, complete a service project, gain a better understanding of nature, and put their fingers on aquatic and non-aquatic camp resources. Become an expert about Camp Graham by earning this fun badge.
Camp Mu-Sha-Ni Junior Ranger Badge (Junior) *Coming soon!*
Explore the local lore and history regarding North Carolina Coastal Pines’ largest campsite while earning the Camp Mu-Sha-Ni Junior Ranger Our Own Council’s badge. By touring the camp and studying the nature and sandhills of Camp Mu-Sha-Ni, girls will have a better understanding of our beloved Yellow Feather site.
Creative Scrapbooking Badge (Junior)
Junior Girl Scouts can earn this Our Own Council’s badge by learning scrapbooking terms, locating local scrapbook resources, and designing and compiling their own scrapbook. This popular topic allows girls to meet other scrapbook enthusiasts and stresses the importance of sharing the past with photos for future generations.
Night Creatures Badge (Junior)
By learning about moths and other nighttime insects, girls are encouraged to take a nighttime hike and explore night life and creatures when they earn their Night Creatures Our Own Council’s badge. Activities include dissecting owl pellets, building a bat or owl house, and learning about nocturnal creatures native to North Carolina. Girls are encouraged to meet with professionals who work with animals.
Railroading Badge (Junior)
Learn all about this major mode of transportation by earning the Railroading Our Own Council’s badge where girls will participate in activities such as visiting the local freight yard, going to hobby shops to learn about model trains, and taking part in community education on the important safety regulations regarding trains and crossings.
Salute to Our Armed Forces Badge (Junior)
North Carolina Coastal Pines’ jurisdiction is the proud home to five military bases. Learn all about the history of Camp Lejune, Cherry Point, Fort Bragg, Pope Air Force Base, and Seymore Johnson Air Force Base as well as basic information regarding all branches of the Armed Forces. Meet a female soldier and learn military time all while gaining a greater appreciation for our men and women in uniform.

Learn about the abundance of opportunities available for Teen Girl Scouts. Girls can check out the possibilities in Girl Scouting and explore global opportunities open to them. They learn to use their resources, balance their lives, embrace the future, and lead the way!
