Join the Fun; Be a Girl Scout!
From sports skill-building clinics to career mentoring, world travel and cultural exchanges to local community service projects, arts and crafts to camping excursions, there is something for every girl. It’s not too late for your daughter to become involved in Girl Scouts! For more information on joining or starting a new Girl Scout troop in Wake 14, please call 919.600.6304.

Through partnerships with committed adults, girls develop qualities that will serve them all of their lives – strong personal values, decision-making skills, and leadership ability. Girls also acquire new skills and interests, make lifelong friends, and build self-esteem through a variety of activities, outings, and outdoor experiences.

My girl is interested in joining Girl Scouts in Wake 14.

Change a Life; It’s Forever. Volunteer Today.
Share your knowledge, experience, and skills while serving as a role model for girls, and have fun doing it! How often do we get the opportunity to profoundly impact the life of a child who isn’t our own? And, how many of today’s children need that one person who will make a real difference in their lives?

Wake 14 is seeking adult volunteers to lead girls ages 5-17 in exciting events, enriching programs, and endless opportunities. Adult women and men, age 18 and older, are invited to join Girl Scouts as volunteers. Girl Scout membership dues are $12 annually; training and local support are provided; and meetings and activities can fit your schedule. Adults are encouraged to register as Girl Scout members and can serve in many volunteer positions. Our volunteers are inspiring, invaluable, and have a profound effect on everyone they help. There would be no Girl Scouting without them!

Wake 14 Volunteer Opportunities:
Troop Leader and Co-leader – work with another volunteer to provide the Girl Scout program to a group of 10-15 girls.

Event Director – plan and execute an area event ranging from a special dinner and dance for Girl Scouts and the special man in their life to a camping weekend for Junior Girl Scouts.

I’m interested in becoming a Wake 14 Girl Scout volunteer.

Wake 14 Highlights

On February 2, Girl Scouts and the special men in their lives enjoyed Wake 14’s annual Me and My Guy Dance at Cardinal-Gibbons High School.

Wake 14 Junior Girl Scouts participated in Medieval Princesses at Camp Mary Atkinson.

Volunteer Corner
Area Leader Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month, 7:00 p.m., at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.

Training courses have been revamped.  The Leader Basics course and the Program Age Level courses have been streamlined into one three-hour course that includes information on the new Journeys.  After taking this new course, leaders will need no new training when their troop advances to the next level.  Look for the new course, Leadership Essentials, in both the Lead On book and on this website under Volunteer Resources.  Leadership Essentials is for NEW leaders only.

Limited Too Outing – Triangle Town Center
Arrange a visit to every adolescent girl’s favorite store! At Limited Too, shaff will show your troop a video on fashion, give the girls the opportunity to put on a troop fashion show, and dress a mannequin, plus each girl will receive a goody bag!

Television and/or Radio Station Tour
Many of our area TV and radio stations will give a tour of the station for free with troops who make the arrangements in advance. This is a great way to see inside of something you’d probably otherwise never get a glimpse of!

“Survivor” Weekend for Teen Troops
Divide into patrols and compete at various activities – fire building, tent set-up, knot tying, knife safety, etc.

Daisy Troop Overnighter
Make arrangements to spend the night in our Council Troop Room at the Raleigh Service Center. It’s close to home, offers a complete bathroom with showers, a kitchen, a TV with DVD player, and lots of space for doing crafts and sleeping! All for only $15/night. The Troop Room provides a safe, neutral place for that first night away from home.

Girl Scout Bucks
Create Girl Scout Bucks that girls in your troop can earn when doing various things – helping a fellow Girl Scout, listening attentively, coming to the meeting in their vests, bringing needed materials to a meeting, participating effectively, etc. At various times throughout the year, give the girls the opportunity to redeem their Bucks for prizes that have been donated either by parents or leaders. Or, hold an auction where they bid on prizes!

Horseback Riding Opportunities
MacNair’s Country Acres in Raleigh provides an opportunity to earn various horse badges. There is a fee, but they provide the riding helmets and horses! Check them out at www.macnairscountryacres.com
