What's Up
GIRL SCOUTS HONORED FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE
Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines is pleased to announce the outstanding youth volunteer honorees for the 2010 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Sponsored by Prudential Financial and the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), the awards recognize outstanding community service by young Americans.
Please join us in recognizing this year's Spirit of Community Girl Scout honorees:
--Catherine Armstrong, 8th grade - Edgecombe County
--Sabrina Carraway, 7th grade - Beaufort County
--Emily Davis Etheridge Hamre, 11th grade - Wilson County
--Leahnie Rivers, 12th grade - Duplin County
In addition, two other Girl Scouts (Kaylin Davis, 11th grade and Melanie Mayfield, 12th grade both of Durham County) received Certificates of Merit for their volunteer community service.
Selected from an application process, our Girl Scout honorees are now eligible for the North Carolina youth volunteer of the year awards. Two State Honorees, one middle school and one high school student, will be named in February. Each state winner will receive a $1,000 award, silver medallion, and a trip to Washington, D.C. for recognition ceremonies next May.
At the Washington event, ten National Honorees will be named by a distinguished national selection committee, and each of these honorees will receive an additional $5,000, a gold medallion, a crystal trophy for her/his organization, and a$5,000 grant from The Prudential Foundation for a nonprofit charitable organization of his or her choice.
The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards are supported by Girl Scouts of the USA, National 4-H Council, American Red Cross, YMCA of the USA, HandsOn Network (generated by the Points of Light Institute) and many other national youth, service and education organizations.
Girl Scouting teaches girls to discover the world around them, connect with others, and take action to make the world a better place. We are proud of our young women for their citizenship and commitment to making a difference in their communities. Congratulations!

News from Product Sales...
Cookie Merchandise for Sale! - We are pleased to announce that cookie merchandise will be available for purchase at cost through December 14, 2009! Items include mylar and latex balloons, tablecloths, flags, car magnets, and yard signs - all great tools to help Girl Scouts sell cookies! Troops can pick up merchandise with their initial cookie orders (February 10-13). In order to make this process as simple and efficient as possible all orders need to be placed by Girl Scout troops and must be picked up at initial delivery. (If individual parents are interested in purchasing merchandise they may do so through their troop.)
The council shops will also carry cookie merchandise, but they're not planning to carry any of the items on the attached Cookie Merchandise flyer, so this may be the only opportunity to purchase these items this year. Just go to www.nccoastalpines.org, and click on Cookies (then click Cookies again) or click this link http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/CookiesProducts/Cookies.aspx to download the brochure and order form.
Questions should be sent to cookies@nccoastalpines.org. Happy shopping!
