What's Up
Shop Closings - The Fayetteville and Goldsboro shops will be closed on Wednesday, December 2, for a staff meeting. The Raleigh shop will be open. Please call there if you need assistance.
New State Law - A new law went into effect in North Carolina as of December 1 prohibiting license plate holders from covering either the state name or the registration sticker. If you have a Girl Scout license plate holder, please check to see if it complies with the new law.
Looking for "Mrs. B's Girls" - Jane Barringer has led Girl Scout Troop 146 for many years. Former members of this troop are planning a reunion tea in January and want to involve as many of "Mrs. B's girls" as possible. If Mrs. Barringer was your troop leader, or you know someone who was in her troop, please contact one of the tea organizers: Jackie Cole Wylie (wyliesch@embarqmail.com), Claire Cox-Woodlief (clairecw@carolinabroadcasting.com), Emily Adcock Hayne (ehayne@nc.rr.com) or Sara Harrington (sara@harringtonlawfirm.net).
Girl Scouting's 100th Anniversary - March 2012 - The 100th anniversary will be here before we know it. As we prepare for this historic occasion, consider hosting a reunion of Girl Scout alumnae in your community. There's no better way to renew "Gold" friendships, share memories of "Girl Scouts Together," and thank those who have had such a profound impact on girls' lives. Let us know if you are planning a reunion in your area so that we can help you get the word out!

New Video - ¡Hola, Girl Scouts! We have an exciting new Hispanic recruitment video, and it can be found on the new EN ESPAÑOL page: http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/espanol.aspx. It's all part of our efforts to reach out into the Hispanic communities, so take a look when you have a moment. Our thanks to volunteer, Teresa Macchi, who voiced the video and helped us write it.
Caroling for Cans - Girl Scouts from Wake 19 and 23 will be participating in Caroling for Cans at the State Capitol during the State Tree Lighting and Holiday Ceremony on Thursday, December 10, beginning at 5:00 p.m. The girls will carol on the Capitol grounds and collect non-perishable food items for local food banks. If your troop is interested in supporting the Girl Scouts by joining in the caroling, please contact Deanna J. Mitchell via email at deanna.kerrigan@ncdcr.gov as soon as possible. The doors of the Capitol will close at 5:00 p.m. that day so it will be imperative that you arrive prior to 4:45 p.m.! The Girl Scouts will be caroling by the East (main) entrance (facing Wilmington Street). Unfortunately, we don't have enough Instructors to go around! If you are interested in providing this service to the girls in and around your area, please contact Eileen Lawlor. We have postponed the session scheduled for December 5 in the hope we can get a few more people registered and be able to provide this service to the girls.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT - Diane Buchner
Diane is the treasurer of the Enchanting Waters Service Unit/Craven/New Bern. She has been the treasurer for several years now. Not only does she manage the Service Unit checking account, but she is also our Cookie Truck coordinator and does a great job managing cookie reorders for all of our troops. On top of that, she is the Uniform Closet coordinator. She collects uniforms and books from those who have outgrown them, washes the uniforms if necessary and then sees that they are distributed to girls who might not otherwise be able to have one. She is the leader of Senior Troop 1699. Our Service Unit has awarded her the Juliette Low Daisy Honor Pin, and in 2008, she was received the Mainstay Award by our Service Unit. She is the first one to volunteer when a job needs to be done and truly lives the Girl Scout Law every day. She is an asset to our Service Unit and the girls in her troop. Thank you, Diane, for your hard work and dedication!
Thank you for all you do! We appreciate your dedication to the girls in our communities. If you have any questions or comments, contact Betsy Wharton at bwharton@nccoastalpines.org
Sincerely,
