In The Know With the CEo

A monthly newsletter by our CEO, Rusine Mitchell Sinclair

CEO, Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines council

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving -- but are not too full to start thinking about the Girl Scout Cookie Sale Program, which starts January 8!  Sale materials were shipped to the Area Cookie Managers last month. The big news is that we have a yummy new cookie: the Belgian-style caramelized Shout Out -- which is sure to be a big hit. This year we are putting special emphasis on showing girls how to safely use the Internet to market their cookie sale program and boost their sales.

If you haven't had the time to see some of our Council's own Internet and social media sites, please take a moment to check us out and tell us what you think.

  • This program year we have expanded our use of Facebook for adults and are working on a secure Facebook page for girls ages 13-18.
  • We have an interactive offering for girls under 13, The World's Strongest Girl.

  • We've created a site that allows us to exchange materials and look for volunteers -- our own version of Craig's List that we endearingly call Juliette's List.

  • We now have an alumnae site for all of our former Girl Scouts. Alumnae who want to reconnect can visit the site and join the fun! While you're navigating through the alumnae site, check out the series of video visits with some alumnae who credit Girl Scouting with helping them become who they are today!
  • Speaking of alumnae reminds me that if you'd like to know more about the plans for our 100th Anniversary, see the news section of our alumnae site or the 100th Anniversary page in our own website.

A little sneak preview for you: GSUSA is launching The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting in the fall of 2011, with pre-release information to help staff and volunteer teams get ready over next summer. The Girl's Guide will feature new badges on many traditional and beloved topics from nature and art to cooking and first aid, as well as new topics based on girl interests.

PS -- just a reminder to check out the new course offerings now uploaded to our Council Online Registration Entry (C.O.R.E.) site -- all designed to make it that much simpler and more convenient to complete the required trainings.
