sternberg named chief development officer

Tracy E. Sternberg has been named chief development officer for Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines, succeeding Leigh Griffin Duque, who stepped down in August to become executive director of InterAct of Wake County.

Sternberg will be responsible for developing and directing fundraising and marketing/communications strategies for the council's 41-county jurisdiction in central and eastern North Carolina.

Sternberg previously served as director of external affairs for EMBARQ's Mid-Atlantic Operations in Wake Forest, where she managed EMBARQ's regional contributions, sponsorships, and internal communications program within a four-state region.

In addition, Sternberg has considerable experience in fund development, including grant writing, foundation relations and campaign development. She has been active in the community as board chair of Action for Children, board member and alumni chair of Leadership North Carolina, and a member of the executive council for the 2007 U.S. Women’s Open and Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Tournament.

Sternberg is a graduate of Meredith College. A native of Greensboro, N.C., she is a lifelong Girl Scout, having achieved her Girl Scout Silver Award in her youth.
