Sarah Moore spends time with Girl Scouts in Troop 3023
Girl Scout Volunteer Honored by North Carolina for Outstanding Service
Raleigh, NC – Sarah Moore of Halifax County has been recognized by the North Carolina Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service as a 2009 Governor’s Volunteer Service Award recipient. Moore is the only 2009 award recipient from Halifax County.
Since 1979, the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award program has honored individuals, groups, teams and businesses that make significant contributions to their communities through volunteer service.
Moore has served the Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines (GS-NCCP) council for over six years as Girl Scout Troop Co-leader, Halifax Area Treasurer, and Special Events Director.
“Sarah brings out the best in all the girls and adults she works with, regardless of their background, race or diversity,” states Rusine Mitchell Sinclair, Girl Scouts-North Carolina Coastal Pines CEO, who nominated Moore for the award. “Her joyous acceptance of the good in everyone with whom she comes in contact makes her a good role model for the girls.”
Moore is an excellent teacher who contributes her knowledge and wisdom to young girls in Troop 3023 as well as to the entire community. As a committed recycler, Moore is able to re-use almost anything, teaching the girls as she goes.
Last year alone, Moore helped organize and start several new Girl Scout troops in Halifax County. Moore taught girls and their parent about Girl Scouting’s values and benefits, recruited more troops, and even helped troops find places to meet.
“Sarah has the gift of changing frowns into smiles, not only with Girl Scouts, but also with the foster children in Halifax County through her work in the Domestic Violence Shelter,” states Girl Scout Membership Executive Grazia Mostella. “Her work with the Shelter includes collecting clothing and household items for families in need. She also uses her well-known cooking talents to bring cakes and other goodies to friends both new and old, inside and outside the Shelter. She makes sure no foster child’s birthday goes un-celebrated, baking an individually selected cake for every foster child in Roanoke Rapids.”
