Girl Scouts Help Launch Connect A Million Minds Program
Raleigh, NC – Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines (GS-NCCP) recently helped Time Warner Cable launch a new philanthropic effort entitled Connect A Million Minds (CAMM) in Wilmington, NC. During the launch Girl Scouts studied the concept of gyroscopes in Segways and in the weaponry on the Battleship North Carolina.
Designed to be a five-year, $100 million program initiative, CAMM will address a declining proficiency in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) that puts America's children at risk of not competing successfully in a global economy.
Time Warner Cable presented GS-NCCP with a $5,000 donation during the event which will support the GS-NCCP Design and Discovery Program, an inquiry-based hands-on design and engineering project to encourage and enhance middle and high school girls’ experiences in engineering and technology. The program is designed to builds girls' knowledge of engineering, design and technology to support the development of inquiry skills, and to involve them in sustained problem solving.
“Girl Scouts shares Time Warner Cable's concern about the decline in young people's interest in and appreciation of education and careers in the STEM fields,” states Rusine Mitchell Sinclair, Girl Scouts North Carolina Coastal Pines CEO. “We are very excited to work with Time Warner Cable to achieve the critical goals that we both share.”
