Girl Scout Council to Host Nonpartisan Voter Education Event for Teens

As many as 1,000 teens from throughout the state are expected at Rally the VOTE – Voices of Teens Emerging, a civic engagement rally sponsored by Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines on September 20 in Raleigh. The nonpartisan event will feature special sessions on voter registration and voter turn-out, and North Carolina gubernatorial candidates Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory and Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue have been invited to address the high school teens. Even teens who can not yet vote will learn how they can get involved in the political process and encourage others to vote through the ‘I Promised a Teen I’d Vote’ voter turn-out drive.

The Girl Scouts of North Raleigh received a special e-mail from the leader of the Second Platoon 561st Military Police Company currently stationed in Bayji, Iraq, thanking the troop for care packages they sent overseas.

Raleigh, N.C. - Girl Scouts-NC Coastal Pines was announced as the winner of the Step It Up contest at the Million Step March team's finale event. The Girl Scouts received the highest vote total on the Million Step March Web site for their proposed program, Make Every Dance Step Count.

Raleigh Girl Selected as National Young Woman of Distinction

Raleigh’s own Megan George, 18, was honored nationally by Girl Scouts of the USA as a 2007 National Young Woman of Distinction for her extraordinary leadership and community service.  The honor is earned by only 13 girls in the country. George received this honor on June 12 for her “Starting Equal and Falling Behind” Girl Scout Gold Award project at a formal celebration of the Girl Scouts’ 95th anniversary in Washington, D.C.
