November 2009

Congratulations to Troops 1159, 1566 and 3937 – winners of the Early Bird registration incentive! Each troop will receive $200 to be used for troop activities. Troop 1159 is from Duplin and is led by Earlean Rivers; Troop 1566 is from Wake County and led by Melissa McMillion. Troop 3937 is from Chatham County and its leader is Heather Mills. Our thanks to all 586 troops who turned in their registrations by the deadline.

We’ve posted a new video on parents and volunteers, so be sure to watch it at: http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/media/Videos/ParentVideo.aspx. Our thanks to volunteers Caroline Doherty, LaToya Williams-Clark and Cynthia McNeil for their help with it.

For anyone who may have missed it and would like to read the opinion editorial about internet safety for girls that ran in the News & Observer, we’ve posted it on the website, too: http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/media/press/2009_OpEd_IS.aspx.

And if you haven’t yet seen the new Innerview podcasts, they are great examples of strong, positive role models for any girl interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) activities: http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/media/Videos.aspx.

On October 29th, President Obama signed the bill authorizing the minting of 350,000 silver dollar coins in honor of Girl Scouts and the achievements of the 50 million women across the nation whose lives have been influenced by Girl Scouting. The coin will be minted and sold in 2013, and the money raised will go to fund renovations at the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace in Savannah, Georgia. Thank you to everyone who wrote our Congressional representatives. For more information about the Congressional Coin and our other advocacy efforts, visit http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/advocacy.aspx.

If you have any interest in a new computer or laptop, consider visiting http://www.lenovo.com/shop/deals/gsnccp where Triangle-based Lenovo has set up the wonderful Girl Scout membership benefit of an up-to-15%-off discount program on all computers, laptops and accessories – with special offers that change frequently.

Only a week left in the Fall Sale so get those orders in. It’s a great way for troops to earn money at the beginning of our Girl Scout year. Deliveries are December 2-5, and troops can earn at least 10% in proceeds on each item sold. For more information, click here: http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/CookiesProducts/FallProduct.aspx.
