Girl Scouts' 100th Anniversary
Welcome to the 2011-2012 program year and the start of Girl Scouts’ 100th Anniversary. What an exciting year to be part of the Girl Scout Movement -- and what a great year it's going to be! One fabulous highlight will be an exhibit filled with neat facts, historic artifacts and uniforms, and other fun, interactive displays at the North Carolina Museum of History (Raleigh). It opens November 18, so make plans to bring your troop to explore our history.
Some of the other 100th Anniversary activities already being planned include:
- 100 Service Projects for Our 100th Anniversary
- 100th Anniversary Patch Program
- Big Apple Bound: Me and My Gal Trip: New York City, November 10-13
- Adult Savannah Adventure: February 24-26
- Forever Green Community Action Projects in February, March and April
- Council Annual Meeting: Raleigh Renaissance Hotel, March 3
- Girl Scout Memorabilia and Collector Show: Camp Mary Atkinson, March 24
- Girl Scout Gold Award Celebration: McKimmon Center, Raleigh, April 21
- Council-wide Camping Celebration: Carolina Horse Park, Hoke County, April 27-29
- Rock the Mall at the Nation's Capital: Washington, DC, June 9
The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting
This just in: The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting has arrived, and copies are available in all three Council Shops! The cost is $16.87 ($18.01 with tax). Learn about new badge requirements, financial awards, safety awards, and other fun adventures. The Badge Activity Sets will be in stock in four to six weeks, we're told.
Fall Product Sale
Our annual Fall Product Sale, Investing in Today = Success for Tomorrow,
begins October 14 and runs through November 6. The sale's financial literacy theme teaches girls that investing in their education today will lead to a successful future tomorrow. Girls are selling magazine subscriptions (new and renewals), nuts and chocolates. Don't forget Treats for Troops -- treats for our military troops!
Girl Scout Specialty License Plates
Get your own Girl Scout Specialty License Plate! We must collect the first 300 orders before it can be created. The additional $30 charge is tax-deductible: $10 goes to support highway beautification, and $20 goes to support Girl Scouting in North Carolina!
All of the details are on our website, and you can complete your order through C.O.R.E. (Council Online Registration Entry). You can also complete the order form (MSWord or PDF) and mail it along with your check to the Raleigh S
ervice Center.
(Please note that our specialty plate will have the Girl Scout logo and the letters "GS" on the right side. But the Girl Scout plate won't even be designed until we send the NC DMV the first 300 paid orders. So, the sooner you order yours, the sooner we can all get them!)
Centennial Cookbook
The commemorative Centennial Cookbooks are expected the middle of November. A limited number will be on sale at the Council Shops for $15 plus tax.
National Council Session
Our council's elected delegates are meeting with their constituents and making their final plans to be ready for the 2011 Girl Scout National Council Session/52nd Convention. It runs from November 10 through 13 in Houston, Texas. More than 14,000 girl and adult members and nearly 200 exhibitors are expected this year. This national event takes place every three years and is the largest event on the Girl Scout calendar!
