June 2011
Girl Scout resident camp gets underway this month, and spaces are filling fast. New this year is off-site horseback riding at Camp Graham. Also new
this summer are a water trampoline at Camp Graham and a water slide at Camp Mary Atkinson – both funded through the annual Fall Product Sale. New this summer at Camp Hardee: its own camp Trading Post, which will open just in time for the first session of camp.
If you have not yet signed up your girl for camp this summer, make sure you do quickly. Girls and parents can click here to get to the Camps Weekly Planner and to the C.O.R.E. link further down on the page to see a list of camp sessions that still have openings.
The average week at camp costs $220 -- a real bargain for our Girl Scout families and yet barely a third of what it costs us to run the program. Even so, the cost for a week of camp is often out of reach for many families. People just like you can help ensure every girl in our 41-county area has the opportunity to go to camp. If you can make a donation to help send a girl to camp, please send a check marked "camp appeal" to us at GS-NCCP, 6901 Pinecrest Road, Raleigh, NC 27613. Or you can donate online.
Early Bird Registration
Just a reminder that Early Bird Registration closes June 15 -- so if you want to earn patches and have a chance to win prizes, click here to register. If you need paper registrations, they are available from your Membership Director.
Early Bird registrants earn patches, and those troops re-registering online with five girls and two adults earn a voucher for one The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting and a chance to win one of four $150 cash prizes for their troop! By the way, Family Partnership donations can now be processed online during renewals and new registrations!
The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting
This fall, look for The Girl's Guide to Girl Scouting (six publications – one for each grade level.) The Girl's Guide will include badge offerings, traditions and history, an awards log, and more. Also in the fall of 2011, all earned recognitions (Try-Its, badges and IPs) will be called Badges, although Daisies will continue to earn Petals, as well as four new Leaves. The five new badge categories are:
