The biggest news is that Summer Camp 2010 is finally here and we have more than 2,160 girls already registered – but we do have a few more spots, so if you haven’t yet registered, hurry to save your spot!

This year’s theme is Camp to the Music, and weekly themes include We Will Rock You, Give My Regards to Broadway, Inter-stellar Overdrive, and Do you Believe in Magic.

Our Adventure camps include Surf Camp; Ropes, Rafts & Roughing It (whitewater rafting, climbing, hiking in West Virginia); and Summer Vacation (a week at Camp Hardee plus a road trip to Kings Dominion).

We have two ‘specialty’ weeks in which girls get to enjoy all the great fun of camp plus have special non-traditional camp focus:  Discover the Leader in You! Leadership Camp at CMA (August 1-6) where middle school girls join together with girls from other United Way youth-serving agencies to delve into leadership exploration, spend a day at Meredith College, and enjoy mentoring opportunities with women professionals; Transformers at CMA (July 11-16) where girls in grades 6-9 will spend the week exploring the world of technology and engineering through hands-on activities (such as building a robot) and enjoying STEM-focused field trips in the Triangle area.

Online membership registration has been a great success! Over 4,200 girls and 2,200 adults have used the system to renew their memberships or join the organization to date. The deadline for Early Bird incentives was extended to June 15, but all members should renew their memberships by September 30 in order to stay current in the system and to be able to register for council-sponsored events online in the fall. If you have any questions about registering online, email them to helpdesk@nccoastalpines.org. Thanks to all who have used the new system!

Another reminder that any of our Girl Scouts who is a high school junior or senior is encouraged to enter an essay contest on the Bill of Rights. Seven girls nationally will be chosen to each receive a $3,000 college scholarship. Entries are due July 30th. Find more information: http://www.womenlegislators.org/events/scholarship-program.php. As part of your application, you must be sponsored by a woman legislator. Mark your calendars and save the dates:
