In The Know With the CEo
january 2010
Welcome to a new year – and a new decade – and the excitement that comes with new beginnings.
Our Girl Scout Cookie Sale starts this month – and we owe a big thank you to everyone who works so hard to make this such a successful event. Much more than a way to raise money, the Girl Scout Cookie Program is a hands-on leadership and entrepreneurial program for girls. They gain a wealth of essential skills from real-life experiences that build a strong foundation for success. Many successful businesswomen and community leaders say they got their start selling Girl Scout Cookies.
Participating in cookie activities allows girls to create their own experiences, reflect on them, and apply what they learn to new challenges. This learning cycle builds courage to try new things and gives girls the desire to continue on the journey to Discover, Lead and Take Action in the Girl Scout Leadership Program. If your Girl Scout has not yet signed up to be part of this fun program, I hope you will consider it now. Please contact your Troop Leader for more information.
Some exciting news: We have a new online membership data and e-Business system. This new system will allow Troop leaders to manage the Troop’s membership and member contact information – and coming soon: the ability to register the Troop for Council-sponsored events. Girls and volunteers can now access their membership information, and parents can log on to update their daughter’s information. Adult members can sign up for council training opportunities. And perhaps best of all – all members will be able to print their Girl Scout membership card directly from the system! For more information, visit the Member Sign In at: http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/member_signin.aspx.
We have a new online video, Purposeful Leadership, for your viewing – and educational – pleasure. Our Volunteer Services Executive, Robin Simonton, explains more about the Girl Scout leadership program and how the journeys fit in - so check it out at http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/media/Videos/Journeys.aspx
Resolve to make this your healthiest year yet – so join us as we walk, dance, hike, jump to a healthier you. Applaud our decision to move to a smoke-free environment and encourage the smokers in your life to cut back and perhaps cut out tobacco products. Look at the foods we choose and consider whether we could make better, healthier choices.
Try-It: Be sure to check out our online Events page and Event Calendar at http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/Program/CouncilPrograms.aspx and then resolve to take one new training or a new Try-It, earn a new badge or go to one new event. Learn something new; try something different – that’s what Girl Scouting is all about.
Girl Scouts are all about building a better tomorrow – so let’s get to it!
