April 2010

I am very pleased to report that the preliminary numbers for the 2010 Girl Scout Cookie Sale show an increase over last year and an increase over our goal: We sold 175,500 more boxes this year than last – which puts the sale up seven percent over last year. The box-per-girl average grew by almost 10 boxes – from 198 to 207. Six girls sold more than 2,000 boxes of cookies, and 900 girls sold more than 500 boxes. This is wonderful news, and a job very well done. Our heartfelt thanks go to the 13,700 girls and 1,400 troops that worked so very hard to achieve these fabulous numbers.

Spring Leaderee 2010 is April 9-11 at Camp Graham. Ninety-eight years of Girl Scouting have produced lots of memories, and we'll get the chance to explore some of them as well as find out what's new in anticipation of our 100th birthday in 2012.

The 2010 Annual Meeting on March 6 was a great success. Our keynote speaker, Capt. Jessica Guarini did a wonderful job – and if you’d like to hear the CEO’s state-of-the-council presentation, we posted it on the web at http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/media/Videos/RMS10AnPres.aspx

Governor Beverly Perdue proclaimed March 7-13 Girl Scout Week throughout North Carolina, and at least 35 mayors and county commissions joined her. You can find the full list at http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/advocacy/GS_week.aspx.

More than 16 women legislators joined 20 Girl Scout pages and other Girl Scouts at a box lunch celebrating Girl Scout Week and Girl Scouting at the Legislature March 9. It was a great one-on-one educational event for the girls and the women, and more information and pictures are posted at http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/advocacy/AdvocacyDay.aspx

Just a reminder to sign up on our new online membership data and e-Business system at http://www.nccoastalpines.org/home/member_signin.aspx - if you haven’t already. Troop leaders can use it to manage Troop membership and member contact information. Girls and volunteers can access their membership information, and parents can log on to update their daughter’s information. Adult members can sign up for council training opportunities.
