CEO, Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines council
Overview
Since August 2007, Rusine Mitchell Sinclair has served as the chief executive officer of Girl Scouts - North Carolina Coastal Pines. The council serves more than 43,000 girl and adult members in 41 central and eastern North Carolina counties. Prior to joining Girl Scouts, Rusine spent 25 years with IBM as a vice president and officer of the IBM Corporation before her retirement in 2007. She made IBM company history in 2005 when she became the first female senior state executive, a position through which she represented IBM across the state to elected officials, business leaders, and the community.
A long-time mentor to young professionals at IBM and through the Girl Scout organization, Rusine is passionate about community service. Throughout her life, she has given her time and expertise to a variety of community activities. Rusine was the chair of the Wake Education Partnership Board of Trustees, a member of the WakeMed Foundation Board of Trustees, and on the executive committee for North Carolina Citizens for Business and Industry. She has also served on the Pines of Carolina Girl Scout Council Board of Directors, North Carolina School of Math and Science Foundation Board, and Meredith College Business Advisory Board. She is the past chair of the Regional Transportation Alliance and the North Carolina Technology Association. In addition, she is an emeritus member of the University of North Carolina Parents Council, University of North Carolina Student Affairs Advisory Board, and an officer of the Rotary Club of Raleigh.
IBM recognized her as a sales and business leader through membership in the 100% Club and Golden Circle over the years. Her community honors include receiving the Triangle Business Journal’s Women in Business award in 1999, Business Leader’s Woman Extraordinaire in 2006, and a Woman’s Club of North Carolina, Inc. Woman of Achievement in 2010. The State of North Carolina also honored her with a Certificate of Appreciation.
Rusine earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Illinois and completed the program for management development from Harvard Business School. She lives in Raleigh, North Carolina, and is married with one daughter who is in her third year at the University of North Carolina School of Law.
