Girl Scouts Learn About Marine Life Across North Carolina

Girl Scouts – North Carolina Coastal Pines hosted Maritime Day. Maritime Day is an annual event where Girl Scouts visit the North Carolina Maritime Museum and participate in fun activities. The event served Girl Scouts of all ages by providing them with the hands-on experiences while exploring careers in science alongside professional women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields. Girls explored exciting topics such as marine life and ecology.

Throughout the course of the day, girls worked towards earning a fun patch by learning about Cape Fear’s natural and cultural maritime history. Girls played colonial games, painted pirate flags, examined artifacts up close, and so much more. These activities promoted inventiveness and creative thinking, and helped girls develop more skills through real world applications. Additionally, programs like Maritime Day provide girls the opportunity to discover and explore STEM-related fields.

By providing hands-on learning experiences, girls develop a lifelong understanding of the world and a richer understanding around the importance of its care and conservation. Many girls carry these lessons and experiences with them as they influence and shape their leadership experience both as a Girl Scout and as member of society.

Girl Scout programming remains a top priority for Girl Scouts as we continue to help build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.
